Hello family and friends, this is Aniya Newsome. I am now a senior at Duke Ellington School of the Arts! Duke Ellington High School for the Arts is a phenomenal arts school in Washington, DC. It allows me to not only grow academically but artistically as well. I am in the Theatre Department at my school and I absolutely love it! Theatre gives me the chance to build skills I will need in the real world and allows me to feel empowered. The pandemic has affected us all in different ways and it has hit my department pretty hard. Like other businesses, we missed out on a lot of funding for the department because of the pandemic. But you can help! With your contribution, you will be able to help with funding for our fantastic future productions, amazing masterclasses, and so much more! I will let you know about any amazing performances I have in the future! I love you so much and thanks for your consideration and continuous support.

Love,

    Aniya Newsome

March for the Arts, is the

Duke Ellington School of the Arts annual Theatre

Fundraiser.

Why do we fundraise?

In the Theatre Department, students aren't just taught how to act. They are taught how to create the stories they want to see. They are given the tools to shape the world around them with their art. Ellington relies on the generosity of parents and donors to ensure that our students receive the highest level of pre-professional training and performance opportunities. Donations enable them to create sets, craft costumes, power technical capabilities, hire additional instructors, and fund classes with Master Acting Teachers like the renowned Professor Vera Katz.
