hi! my name is ruby kodis and it's my second year at duke ellington in the theatre department. i'm so so grateful to finally be in the building with the people that have become my family, even virtually. but let's be real, theatre is not cheap, and dcps doesn't fund the arts!! our department depends on your donations for our education and productions. not only that, but every student who reaches their goal is included in a trip to new york to see a broadway show! and of course we can't forget that these funds will go towards the salaries for my wonderful teachers (who don't get paid half as much as they should). i love theatre because i get to put myself in others' shoes. it makes me more sympathetic  and helps me understand the people around me. theatre is so important because it opens people’s eyes to the world and encourages them to try new things and be more empathetic. i can't imagine a functioning world without it. your donation will help give us the opportunities that will give us what we need to become great theatre artists. don't let our department die please, donate anything you can! :)

March for the Arts, is the

Duke Ellington School of the Arts annual Theatre

Fundraiser.

Why do we fundraise?

In the Theatre Department, students aren't just taught how to act. They are taught how to create the stories they want to see. They are given the tools to shape the world around them with their art. Ellington relies on the generosity of parents and donors to ensure that our students receive the highest level of pre-professional training and performance opportunities. Donations enable them to create sets, craft costumes, power technical capabilities, hire additional instructors, and fund classes with Master Acting Teachers like the renowned Professor Vera Katz.
